Retirement can be both an exciting and daunting time with so much to think about from keeping socially and physically active, managing your money, right through to where you

Those retiring in the near future may be uncertain of how to plan their next steps.

But help is at hand for residents in Tower Hamlets. Tower Hamlets Council has been chosen as the first London local authority to pilot the Retire Ready programme.

Supported by Link Age Plus, and facilitated by social enterprise Mangroves CIC, Retire Ready is a community outreach programme, covering a wide range of topics designed to help individuals plan and prepare for a productive and fulfilling retirement.

The programme also aims to bring residents and communities closer together, matching personal interests and circumstances with opportunities available locally.

Barbara Disney, commissioning manager for older people said: “Retirement is a life changing time and adjusting to it is not always easy. Retire Ready will help make that transition much easier and support you to prepare more effectively for retirement.

“I hope it will also inform residents of the wealth of community activities they can get involved in from volunteering, further education, part-time work and leisure pursuits.”

Each programme consists of a two-day workshop, followed by one-to-one support over a six to eight week period. There will be four Retire Ready programmes running in June and July.
