Christmas cards with a crime prevention message
Tandridge's Community Safety Partnership is distributing Christmas cards with a crime prevention message to elderly people.
The cards are being handed out by post offices around the district to everyone collecting their pension. They give advice about bogus callers and home security, as well as useful telephone numbers. Door stickers and bookmarks carrying a similar message are also available.
The Be Wise advice is:
- Beware of bogus callers and thieves
- Ensure proof of identity
- Watch your purse and wallet
- If in doubt, keep them out
- Secure your cash
- Emergency – dial 999
Hilary New, Tandridge's Community Safety Manager, "We were delighted with the response to the cards last year and are very pleased the post offices are supporting this campaign again. The cards aim to reduce older residents' fear of crime by asking them to be aware of bogus callers, always get proof of identity and to keep an eye on their purses and bags. We also remind them Surrey is one of the safest counties to live in."
